Winter Routes

Please wear hi vis/fluorescent in the dark.

We meet in the playground of Colmore Junior School, accessed via the gate entrance on GROVE ROAD B14 6ST (opposite the Gulf petrol station) at 6.20pm.

You can park in the school car park, the entrance is also on Grove Rd, opposite the garage. Please note that the school postcode will take you to a different adjoining road. You can park in the school car park until 8:15pm. 

 When you arrive you will see runners starting to congregate in the playground, find a Run Leader to check in electronically. They wear fluorescent yellow tops with RUN LEADER and a black lion. 

It’s every runners responsibility to learn the route -maps below.

Feck Hill – Tuesdays bi-weekly 4 miles – we meet at 6:20pm

PLEASE LEARN THE ROUTE.

Take a left out of the playground and run along grove rd, take the first left along Tenbury rd crossing when safe to do so. At the end take the hairpin right turn and onto Featherstone road and continue along the steady incline to the end, turn left onto Brandwood rd continue along taking care when crossing at the mini roundabout, continue along and down Brandwood at the chip shop using the traffic lights to cross ahead of you turn left onto Broad lane, continue along the undulation of Broad lane on the right, using the zebra crossing to cross to the left just before turning left onto Alcester rd (FECK HILL) continue up the hill past the pub at the top then take a left at the Skoda garage (passing the well placed defib on the wall on your left) onto Woodthorpe rd, cross from the left to the right of Woodthorpe rd when safe to do so, when you reach the mini roundabout at the end take a right onto Brandwood rd, continue along Brandwood rd taking a right at the fourth (counting the small cul-de-sac) road onto Featherstone rd, cross featherstone when safe to do so onto the right hand pavement,  turn left at the sharp hairpin and back up Tenbury rd, Cross Tenbury when safe to do so over to the right hand path, at the end turn right onto Grove rd and back to the school.

Allenscroft – Tuesdays bi-weekly 4 miles we meet at 6:20pm

PLEASE LEARN THE ROUTE.

Take a left out of the playground and run along grove rd, take the second left along Featherstone rd, then the second left along Hazelhurst rd, cross Tenbury rd keeping on Hazelhurst rd at the end tak a right onto Howard rd, at the corner take a right onto Alcester rd, continue on Alcester up passing the Skoda garage at the top of the hill, continue over passing the pub and down Feck Hill, at the bottom of the hill opposite cocksmore leisure centre take the right onto Broad lane, use the zebra crossing to cross over to the left (there is no pavement on the right hand side further up), Continue along Broad lane, use the traffic lights at the main junction crossing right toward the chip shop first then left over Brandwood rd and onto Brandwood park rd (it can be a little dark on this stretch so take it easy) continue down Brandwood park rd and eventually curves round to the right onto Allens Croft, continue along Allens Croft over the mini roundabout and then up the hill, Cheer when you make it to the next mini roundabout as the hill is almost over, pass the shops (and well located emergency defib) and continue along Vicarage road until the Red Loin pub, take a right then use the traffic island to cross over

Winter 10km – Thursdays weekly we meet at 6:50pm

we currently offer 2 pace groups. 9mm and 10mm

PLEASE LEARN THE ROUTE.

Take a left out of the playground and run along grove rd, take the first left along Tenbury rd crossing when safe to do so. At the end take the hairpin right turn and onto Featherstone road and continue along the steady incline to the end, turn left onto Brandwood rd continue along take a left onto Woodthorpe rd at the mini roundabout, crossing over to the right hand path when safe to do so. Continue along until the T junction at the Skoda garage turn right and use the crossing to cross Alcester rd, turn left after crossing the road then right onto Taylor rd, continue on to the end of Taylor rd crossing to the left pavement when safe to do so, take a left onto Haunch lane and continue down the hill to the roundabout, turn right onto Wheelers lane and up the hill, over the roundabout and along towards the Billesley pub, use the traffic light to cross towards the pub, head to the next light on the right and use these to cross onto  Brook lane, left up brook lane, turn right onto Springfield rd, continue along at the roundabout go straight over continuing onto Springfield rd, continue along Springfield until crossing over the roundabout onto Valentine rd, at the end turn right onto Alcester rd and use the traffic lights to cross over towards the park, turn right onto Queensbridge rd, continue along until the mini roundabout, there is a loop here – turn left along Moor Green Lane keeping to the left hand side (this light is not as bright here, and the pavement turns to a rought track for a short distance) continue along the track taking a left onto Yew Tree rd, continue along until you come back to Queensbridge rd, trun left until the roundabout and left back onto Moor Green Lane, crossing to the right hand path this time. Continue along and down then up until the T junction at the end of the park. Cross to the left at the junction onto Avenue Rd, Continue up Avenue rd crossing to the right hand pavement when safe (there is a zebra crossing at the top) Continue along the side of the park keeping the park to your right, turn right at the end onto Vicarage rd, use the traffic lights along Vicarage rd just before the Red Lion pub, at the pub turn left and back to the school gates.

Winter Christmas Tree route – 10km Thursdays meet at 6:50pm – Dec – Jan

we currently offer 2 pace groups. 9mm and 10mm

PLEASE LEARN THE ROUTE.

Start left out of Colmore jnr schools gates along Grove Rd, continuing down Brandwood rd to the traffic lights. At the traffic lights cross over Brandwood rd, then immediately cross over Brandwood park drive (you should be on Monyhull Hall rd) Continue along and up Monyhull Hall rd until the roundabout with McDonalds, cross over keeping McDonalds on your right  then take the side rd Parsons Hill down, continue straight going up Wharf rd passing the Navigation inn. At the roundabout cross over and along the Green, The first Christmas tree will be on your right as you see the green. After a photo, head towards the Bulls Head pub, keeping the pub on your left run past it towards the church, veer right at the church along Back rd and onto Pershore Rd S, Continue along past the Toby Carvery and up the hill towards Cotteridge train station. At the top of the hill use the traffic lights to cross the rd and go right, passing the fire station. As you reach the corner, you should find the second Christmas Tree outside the Cotteridge Church. After a photo continue round to your right and cross Pershore rd using the traffic lights, a short left then right onto Watford rd continue along Watford rd as it becomes Linden rd, passing Cadburys on your right and up to the third Christmas tree, it’s big you can’t miss it. After a photo head right going through Bournville village green, take a left out of the green onto Sycamore rd, after a small distance take a right onto Laburnum rd, take the second left onto Elm rd (the last rd before the dead end) Run along Elm rd until the end. Turn right onto Raddlebarn Rd, pass the Country girl pub on your left and take the second right onto Umberslade rd. Continue down Umberslade rd towards Morrisons, use the traffic lights to cross over towards The Bourne Brook inn and immediately use the next traffic lights to cross over the Pershore rd, go right from the lights along the Pershore rd, continue along and take the third right onto Cartland rd, run up Cartland rd crossing at the zebra crossing and continue until the top, turn left onto Vicarage rd and almost immediately use the traffic island to cross. Head left toward the Red Lion pub, at the crossroads use the lights to cross and head right along Grove rd back to the school.

 

Summer Routes

 

Park Left – Tuesday bi-weekly 4 miles

The Route

– Exit the park to the left and go down Avenue Road, shortly after you pass under the railway bridge you will see a small traffic island, we recommend crossing using the island and onto Shutlock Lane which bears right.
– Take the sharp turn right into Highbury Park and follow the path up to the top. As you exit the park go left onto Queensbridge Road, at the mini roundabout cross and go down Russell Road, follow the road round and go left at the main roundabout onto Edgbaston Road, entering Cannon Hill Park through the front gates (just after the bus shelter and before the traffic lights).
– Follow the path up past the cafe and then the bandstand, after the bandstand the path curves right with a slight down hill, take the left at the grass triangle (if you go over the bridge you have gone to far) you will pass a play area on your right
– Follow along until you find another smaller triangle of grass the ‘Stirchley Triangle’. Turn left here and follow the path up towards Holders Lane car park entrance, continue forward on the path in front of you and up Holders Lane. (Avoid hurtling into a cul-de-sac if possible.)
– Turn right out of Holders Lane onto Moor Green Lane and run down to Shutlock Lane. Turn left as Shutlock Lane meets Dads Lane and the entrance to Highbury Park.
– Follow the road up and under the railway bridge (cross at the island you used on the way down) continue up Avenue Road and return to the park – 4 and a bit miles! Done!

Park Right – Tuesdays bi-weekly 4 miles

The Route

– Turn right out of the park into Avenue Road, at the end turn right onto Vicarage Road before turning into the blind corner onto Cartland Road – take care here!
– Go down Cartland Road until you get to the traffic lights near the bottom of the hill, from here go right onto the River Rea Path.
– Cross the traffic lights at Dads Lane then go left then right along Cecil Road. At the T junction take a right on Kitchener Road and rejoin the River Rea Path at the end of the road, the path leads instantly left.
– Continue along with the field on your left and the river on your right then take the second bridge on your right. Follow the path as it bends left until you reach the end of the trees, take a right here (Stirchley Triangle. If you see a bridge on your left you have gone too far) and follow the path up towards the Holders Lane car park entrance, continue forward on the path in front of you and up Holders Lane. Avoid hurtling into a cul-de-sac if possible.
– Turn left out of Holders Lane onto Moor Green Lane going towards the mini roundabout and cross over to Queensbridge Road (right at the mini roundabout) follow the slight undulation of Queensbridge Road and just as you reach the traffic lights at the end you will see the entrance to into Highbury Park on your right, enter the park and down the path all the way along until you reach Shutlock Lane entrance.
– Turn left up (up, up, up!) Avenue Road and return to the park. You get your 4 miles before you join Avenue Road.

The Route

– Starting under the trees next to the Avenue Road Car Park we take one short loop of the park: run along the path inside the park heading past the basketball courts (on your right) and bear left at the end towards the tea rooms. Pass the tea rooms on your right, then the car park on your left and rejoin the park path on your left heading towards the Vicarage Rd entrance. Keep on the park path bearing left then left again taking you past the play ground on your left. Where the path forks bear right and out onto Avenue Road at the car park entrance.
– Continue left down Avenue Road, which turns into Dads Lane, just after the chip shop at the traffic lights turn left onto the River Rea Path
– Follow the path, crossing at the traffic lights on Cartland Road, pass a play park on your left then shortly after the park take the bridge on your right. Turn left onto Hunts Road, follow the road as it curves right and up to Pershore Road.
– Turn left and cross at the traffic lights then continue left and immediately right onto Mary Vale Road. Continue up Mary Vale Road and join the canal at the Bournville Train Station entrance just before the bridge.
– Go down the ramp to join the canal, turn right onto the canal and follow along with the canal on your left and the train line on your right. The canal path crosses from right to left over a bridge at Cotteridge then again further along from left back to right at Lifford.
– As you continue on the canal path you will shortly arrive at Kings Norton Junction where the canal splits, go left over the bridge and continue with the canal on your right, under the low bridge at the guillotine lock, continuing along until you reach the Brandwood Tunnel where a sharp uphill brings you on to Shelfield Road. Turn left up Shelfield Road then right onto Brandwood Park Road.
– Cross before the traffic lights near the bus shelters onto Brandwood Road, continue up Brandwood Road, which turns into Grove Road, all the way until you see the Red Lion Pub.
– Use the traffic lights to cross and pass the pub keeping it on your right as you take the corner, then cross Howard Road and again to cross Vicarage Road. Go right from the lights and follow Vicarage Road, keeping the park on your left.
– Turn left onto Avenue Road, continue along returning to the park at the car park entrance. 10k Done!
